In 1978, Cessna introduced the Citation II 550 as a larger version of the Citation I among its jets for sale. The Citation II comfortably sat ten passengers and held more powerful JT15D4 engines. A total of 603 Citation II's were produced. A single pilot version of the Citation II was also built called the Citation II 551. The original Citation required two pilots when marketed in aircraft sales. A military version of the Citation II, Model 552 T-47A, was created for the Navy to train F-14 Tamcat Radar Intercept Officers. T-47As were powered by JT15D5 engines and built with shorter wings and an F-14 special radar system, the AN/APQ-159. Unfortunately, all but one T-45A was destroyed in a hanger fire. An improved T-39 version replaced the Navy's T-47As. Cessna also built a version, Model 552 OT-47B, for the U.S. Department of Defense for usage in drug interdiction reconnaissance operations. JT15D4B engines were added in 1984 along with aerodynamic improvements to create the Citation S/II 550. It held a cruise speed of 403 knots with a range of 1998 nautical miles. A new innovation was a single supercritical airfoil which replaced the wing. A single pilot version of the Citation S/II 550 was also built, the Citation II/SP. The Citation II/SP replaced the II until 1984 when the II was again added to the production line. In 1997, the Citation Bravo replaced both the Citation S/II 550 and the S/II 11/SP. New technology was introduced in this Bravo including updating the avionics to the Honeywell Primus 1000 EFIS glass cockpit. This Bravo was powered by new P&WC PW530A turbofans to give it a slightly reduced cruise speed of 401 knots and a range of 1900 nautical miles. A new, smoother-riding trailing link configuration for the landing gear was used. A total of 337 Bravo's had been built when production ended in 2006. Due to limited production, used Citation II, S/ll 550, and used Bravo 550 for sale often must be searched for through selected national or international jet for sale brokers knowledgeable about used aircraft for sale markets.
