In 1978 Cessna began designing a larger, higher performing, long-range jet for sale after its original Citation I and II. In 1983 production began on the all new Citation III 650 that little resembled the previous Citations. The new Citation III for aircraft sales sported a swept supercritical wing for high-speed long range flight, a T-tail and a new fuselage.
The Citation III was powered by two Garrett TFE731 engines to give it a cruise speed of 472 knots and a range of 2346 nautical miles. In 1983 the Citation III set two
time-to-height records for its class, as well as a speed record by flying from Gander to Le Bourget in 5 hrs. 13 min. A total of 202 Citation IIIs were built when production ended in 1992.
In 1991 Cessna produced a low cost version of the Citation III called the Citation VI. The Citation VI was built with a basic interior and different avionics. Only 39 Citation VI were built when production ended in 1995.
In 1992 a more powerful Citation VII was produced. The Citation VII was powered by two AlliedSignal TFE7314R2Ss engines to give it a cruising speed of 476 knots and a range of 2220 nautical miles. The Citation VII continues to be produced today. In 1997 Executive Jet Aviation ordered 20 Citation VII for its NetJets fractional ownership business.
The used Citation 7 for sale, also known as the used Cessna Citation VII for sale remains a key player on the aircraft for sale playing field.
