Cessna increased the size of the Citation in 1988 again to improve aircraft sales by giving eight passengers 20 more inches of cabin space. This made Citation V, Citation Ultra and Citation Encore the largest members of Cessna's straight-wing family. The Citation V-560 was powered by T-47A's JT15D5A engines for a 427 knot cruise speed and a range of 1920 nautical miles. Production of Citation V ended in 1994 with 262 total built. In that same year, the Citation Ultra was offered as an aircraft for sale, powered by the latest JT15D-5D engines and containing the Honeywell Primus 1000 EFIS glass cockpit. The Ultra's cruise speed reached 430 knots with a range of 1960 nautical miles. One year later the Citation Ultra was named Flying magazine's "Best Business Jet" for sale. Ultra's production ended in 1999. Cessna also designed a Citation Ultra version for the U.S. Army called the UC-35A and a second version called UC-35C for the U.S. Marine Corps which replaced older versions of the C-12 Huron. In 1998 Cessna announced it would upgrade the Ultra to produce a more powerful corporate jet for sale called Citation Encore. In 2000 the Encore was introduced with Pratt & Whitney Canada PW534A engines, increased fuel capacity, and a trailing link main undercarriage. The Encore has a cruise speed of 431 knots and an increased range of 1700 nautical miles. A new version of the Citation Encore for aircraft sales called the Citation Encore+ began production in 2007. The Encore+ features FADEC-controlled PW535B engines and an updated avionics system by Rackwell-Collins Pro Line 21.
