The Citation Sovereign was developed when Cessna's market research revealed the need for a mid-sized corporate jet for sale between the Excel/XLS and the Citation X. In the late 1990's Cessna research discovered that out of the almost 1800 mid-sized corporate jets in service more than 50% were older models that would soon need replacing. A new wing along with an added five feet of fuselage was added to the Cessna Excel to create the Citation Sovereign. The Sovereign is powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW306C turbofan engines along with FADEC controls to give it a cruising speed of 444 knots and a range of 2820 nautical miles. The Sovereign has the largest cabin in its class with its design to seat eight and ability to seat twelve. Cessna began official production of the Sovereign in 2004 for the aircraft for sale corporate business. A Honeywell Epic CDS avionics system with four display panels, a dual long range navigation system and dual attitude/heading reference systems are standard in the Sovereign. The Sovereign also comes equipped with an enhanced ground proximity warning system. Due to its relatively new introduction to the aircraft sales market, a used Cessna Citation Sovereign for sale might be a rarity.
