The Eclipse 500 is a six seat Very Light Jet for sale. The Eclipse 500 is powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW610F turbofan engines. The production model of the Eclipse 500 debuted at the 1997 Oshkosh Airshow as the Williams V-Jet II. It was designed and built by Burt Rutan's Scaled Composites as a test bed for Williams International new FJX-2 turbofan engine. The V-Jet II debuted with a forward swept wing, V-tail, and an all-composite structure. This aircraft attracted so much attention at the show that Eclipse Aviation was founded in 1998 for the sole purpose of developing and producing this aircraft for sale. Eclipse CEO Vern Raburn received the backing of Bill Gates to help the Eclipse project start. The V-Jet II was redesigned with its main cabin shape remaining the only part that remained true to the original design. New cost effective manufacturing techniques were developed for this all aluminum structure with straight wings. Some building techniques were taken direct from the automotive industry. It resulted in much more exact control of the aircraft's final shape so that the cabin can be pressurized to a higher differential for the aircraft sales market. This new technology also helps the Eclipse Corporation boast that 500 is "quieter than virtually all multi-engine turboprop and piston aircraft". A single crew can assemble an entire airframe in a single shift and the Eclipse exterior can be installed in only 45 minutes using a moving assembly line. Pratt & Whitney Canada designed a modified version of their PW615 engine specifically for the Eclipse aircraft for sale. It was called the Pratt & Whitney Canada PW610F. The new engine debuted in the Eclipse 500 on December 31, 2004. New glass cockpit technology is seen in the "center" of the Eclipse 500 control panel. A multitude of aircraft sales parts companies including Chelton, Garmin, Honeywell, Free Flight Systems, Crossbow, Harco Laboratories, Meggitt, Hispana-Suiza, and PS engineering are used to provide components in the Eclipse 500's cockpit. On September 30, 2006 the Eclipse 500 received full FAA certification to fly into known icing conditions expected for the following year. The Eclipse 500 current certification allows a single pilot to fly the fly the Eclipse 500 using IFR. A delay in the FAA production certificate has caused the deliveries of the new Eclipse 500 jet for sale to be slower than expected. In December 2006 and again in March 2007, the Eclipse received improvements that resulted in the cruise speed increasing from 360 to 370 knots and an increased range from 1055 to 1125 nm. All previously delivered Eclipses will be upgraded as well. A total of 2,500 orders for Eclipses are reported so far among aircraft sales firms. Eclipse plans to make four planes a day starting in 2008. Eclipse also plans to offer a unique Jet Complete Program that guarantees private owners a maintenance cost of only $209 per flight hour for up to three years. The first Eclipse was delivered to David Crowe on January 4, 2007. Used Eclipse 500 for sale are always available on the Flying Online network of websites.
