The Learjet 55, one of the later aircraft for sale versions, is powered by two Garrett TFE731-3A-2B turbofans to produce a cruising speed of 402 knots and a range of 2,244 nautical miles. The LJ 55 is piloted by a crew of two and holds up to 7 passengers.
In 1991, Lear created an improved version of the 55, called the Learjet 60 which began production in 1993. The LJ 60 is piloted by a crew of two and accommodates up to ten passengers. A cruising speed of 447 knots and a range of 2,499 nautical miles are achieved by two Pratt & Whitney 305A engines. The LJ 60 crosses the Atlantic from Newfoundland to the British Isles, but does not have the range for direct transoceanic flights from the U.S.
New LJ 60s cost about $12 million. Used LJ 60s for sale often can be purchased for considerably less in the aircraft sales market.
