The current Piper Archer model is the descendant of the Cherokee 180. The Archer remained a low wing, single engine aircraft. This four seat Archer still exists. Since 1962, it has been used as a popular trainer aircraft among aircraft sales buyers.
The evolved Piper Archer II has a cruise speed of 125 knots and a range of 565 nautical miles. In 1994 a new streamlined cowing was added to the model, and renamed Archer III. The Archer III continues to be built today. The III features a cruise speed of 128 knots and range of 660 nm.
The Piper's descendent, Cherokee 180, was given a constant-speed propeller and retractable landing gear, and in 1967 was renamed the Piper Cherokee Arrow. The Arrow is a four seat, low wing, single engine aircraft for sale. The original Cherokee Arrow is powered by a 180 horsepower Lycoming O-360 engine to give it a cruise speed of 140 knots with a range of 865 nautical miles.
In 1968, the Arrow was given a more modern design. Windows were added to each side and stylish levers used for the throttle and mixture. Fuselage was stretched to increase leg room and baggage capacity. An engine upgrade in 1969 allowed the Cherokee Arrow to produce 200 h.p. and it became known as Arrow II in the aircraft sales market.
In 1975, the Arrow III was introduced. It offered a new semi-tapered wing design. This longer wing increased Arrow's maximum takeoff weight. A turbo charged Continental TSIO 360-FB engine was added to create a turbo charged version. The Arrow turbo has a cruise speed of 160 knots and a range of 900 nautical miles.
A moving T-tail was added to create the Arrow IV. This tail guided this aircraft for sale until 1982. The tail was re-produced again from 1989 to 1992. Then, the Piper Arrow III was brought back into production and continues to be produced today.
