The Piper PA-23 Apache was the first twin engine, light aircraft for sale developed by Piper Aircraft. Introduced in 1954, it eventually birthed the Aztec, an all-metal monoplane with a twin tail and single vertical stabilizer that was an improved design of its predecessor. The PA-23 Aztec came with a variety of engines throughout its existence. In later model years when offered for aircraft sales, it featured two Lycoming IO-540 fuel-injected engines that produced 250 h.p. each. These powerful engines allowed the Aztec to reach altitudes of 20,000 feet and speeds of 210 mph.
