The Piper Cherokee Six was introduced with 260 h.p. in 1965 and with a popular six to seven seat capacity. The Cherokee Six features an extra baggage compartment and double door for easy entry. Features such as these make the Six an ideal plane for small air cargo operations.
A Lycoming IO-540-K1A5 powers the Cherokee Six to produce a cruise speed of 168 mph and a 650 nm range. Total wingspan is 32.8 feet, length of the aircraft is 27.7ft, and height is 7.9 ft.
In 1966, a 300 h.p. version was added, followed by a seaplane version in 1967. Before 1974, Cherokees featured a "Hershey Bar" shaped wing design in each aircraft for sale.
After 1974, Cherokees produced began introducing a semi tapered wing design. All Cherokee Six produced after 1975 for aircraft sales contain retractable landing gear. This new gear design was called the Saratoga, and used mainly from 1980-1985. The retractable Saratoga gear resumed production in 1995.
The original fixed gear model returned to production in 2003. This popular fixed gear model is still produced today under the name Piper 6X and the turbocharged 6XT.
