1949 PIPER CLIPPER PA-16 ...![]() |
3136 | N5783H | $28,500 | Pennsylvania |
The Piper Clipper was brought into production in 1949 to create a new, competitive aircraft for sale using existing parts and tooling. It is designed to accommodate four persons, but can be a bit short of room with a 20 ft. 1 inch. length and a 6ft. 2 in. height. The Clipper cruises at 117 mph powered by a 115 h.p. engine.
Although Clipper retained control sticks common to its Cub family of aircraft sales, features added included another door and a wing tank, making the Clipper essentially a Piper Vagabond with a nose wheel. Fewer than 800 Clippers were built during the one year Piper Clippers were produced.
Later, the Piper was improved to include wing flaps, more fuel tanks, and the control stick was replaced with a new yoke. A more powerful 150 h.p. engine was installed. This updated aircraft for sale was renamed the Piper Pacer.
